Core Values

We envision a Community in which behavioral health challenges are recognized as public health issues that are both preventable and treatable.

Recovery Philosophy

The Recovery Philosophy is deeply engrained in the way that El Hogar conducts its day-to-day business. What is Recovery? “Recovery refers to the ways in which a person with a mental illness and/or addiction experiences and manages his or her disorder in the process of reclaiming his or her life in the community.” CT Dept. of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Recovery is possible.

People with mental health challenges and/or addiction can, and often do, recover. The journey is different for each person, but it usually begins with the awareness that change can happen. Recovery is a process of growth, some setbacks, and learning from experience. As with any illness, the person with mental illness and/or addiction is in charge of his or her own recovery. El Hogar empowers their consumers to define their own personal treatment plans and recovery goals.
